Like many of my friends, I was gutted when Trump won the election in 2016. When I told my son the morning after, he looked up out of bed and said with no hesitation “you gotta be fucking kidding me.”
This was a song I kept playing that winter when I needed to be uplifted – which was frequent.
Richard Barrett is the person behind Crooked Man. He has been doing house music for nearly 30 yours in many incarnations. He started as a DJ in Sheffield back in the 80s, then Sweet Exorcist in the 90s and produced many popular UK artists since then.
His last two albums have been uniformly great.
This song is a slow burner – if you are patient, it gets more and more uplifting – gospel music for those of us that have no home in churches.
In the single, the crescendo happens about 2-3 minutes but the only version I could find online is a much longer version that runs for 13 minutes – I’m sure this is great on a dance floor with the volume up loud.
