I’m new here

There are so many choices. I could pick something older – and that is immediately what comes to mind. But I won’t. And I will try not to overthink this.

Gil Scott Heron released his last album in 2011. I wore it out listening to it over and over along with Bobby Womack’s last album.

Sadly Gil died in 2011. Some of you may know him from “The Revolution Will Not Be Televised” – see link in comments below.

There are two awesome versions of the album – I’m New Here is the original and We’re New Here is a mix version he did with his producer.

There are so many songs I could pick from – Running, Piano Player, NY is Kiling Me.

Since this is my first post – I’m going to pick “I’m New Here” – sort of makes sense as I’m new here too. This is a cover of a song by Bill Callahan/Smog.

Love the line where he says “I’m the closest thing I have to a voice of reason”. And the dubby vocals near the end always make me want to turn up the volume all the way.

I'm a lifelong music lover living in Boston with my husband, son and mother in law. Music has always played a big part in my life and I would like to share some stories and thoughts about songs that I love.
