Skym

I love Underworld – especially their first two albums which were both amazing from end to end.

I played Skym over and over after my sisters death 16 years ago.

The song is melancholy and dark which fit my feelings at that time.

I remember many things leading up to her death.

Seeing her unable to get off the floor when we were all going to a concert. I did nothing. We went to the concert with her boyfriend and left her at home.

Spending time with her every night when she was going through withdrawals in St Louis University hospital.

Going to her house and pouring out all the liqour and bringing her to stay with Aubrey and me.

She had no energy and spent the last few days of her life living with us.

Taking her to a doctor’s appointment on 3-30-2005. She had cirrhosis and was supposed to get examined by the liver specialist. They decided to admit her. The last time I saw her alive was when I said goodbye and left her in her room.

About an hour later, the hospital called and told me I needed to get back right away.

By the time I got there, she was dead. When the priest asked me if I wanted to pray I told him I didnt believe in god and neither did she. We didn’t pray.

I had to call my parents in Arizona and tell them she had died. Then call Aubrey who was at work.

I can remember the sun that afternoon and the wind in the trees. The whole world slowed down as I dealt with the immediacy of her death.

I played this song many times shuttling back and forth between our house and hers as I worked to empty it out. I would play it in her car which stilled carried her smell.

Im sorry I didnt do more to help you before you got so sick you died Crissy. I should have known how sick you were.

  1. Do you still feed the animal
    Animal finger
    Finger on the phone
    Curve around corners
Do you still feed the animal
    Your muffled voices
    Up this ideal head
    And the wires come in
    Open us
    Close us
    (slide beneath the city)
    Slide beneath the city
And the feet in the streets above us
    (and your voice again)
    And your voice again
    (and your voice again)
    (and your voice again)
I don’t want you to call again
Do you still feed the animal
    Muffled madness
    Quiet calm pervade her
I couldn’t go through this again
    You said you love her
    You know you love her
You never want to be without her
You said you never want hurt her
    You know you hurt her
    I
    How many lives you lives
    How many hurt you done
How many times you come to this place
    How much you want it
    You said you love her

    1. I’m so sorry you had to go through that and for the void that was left when she passed. You were, and still are a good brother. We love you.
